KDE opens apps slow
When in Gnome, apps like Mozilla, etc, open more quickly than in KDE. So i was thinking maybe thats because it used GTK or something, but when i opened Konquerer, or other KDE apps, they opened faster in Gnome than in KDE!
When i open a folder in Windows, the window pops up and displays its contents almost immediately. In KDE, it takes like 2 seconds, to do so and its so annoying, becuz Gnome doesnt take that long, and i like KDE more than GNOME.
im using Slackware 9.1, pentium 4 processor, around 510 mb of ram. whats the deal

LOL,
No worries h1tman,
I believe everyone goes through this at some point. KDE is very beefy. Its actually not only memory intensive but resource intensive all the way around. Its got its hooks in allot of shared libraries as well as all of the other Kewl KDE apps that share the same shared libraries, fighting for cpu cycles. They all have to share a chunck of memoery where those libraires are located and the competition is stiff.
Its pretty funny actually. In KDE if I had 4 browser windows open and 3 shells open while at the same time cutting and pasting to a KWORD doc it was painfully slow. Its bad enough that I have a slow Arsed dialup connection to boot.
Galeon works just fine and if you ever need a KDE exe app you can just source it/execute (./file name) if need be. I use Galeon and use the KPPP dialer that comes with KDE. I can't stand Galeons. If anything you can uninstall KDE apps that you don't need or use and this will help some what. Just for fun open the system monitor GUI and watch all that ram you got, get a work out, let alone the cpu. You can allmost here the apps huffing and puffing out of breath fight for the needed resources.

I know what you mean...
What is really sad is my case: I would Gnome except for one tiny little issue: KDE lets me specify how long the kicker is. Gnome doesn't.
I like my bottom panel to take up only 70% of the screen, with its nice Acqua background, and KDE makes it easy, while Gnome doesn't.
Oh well, it works for me, so who am I to complain.

Check out gDesklets. I think it can give you the sexy kicker look you crave.
