kde not working

hi all

whenever I switch my desktop to kde from gnome and then when restarting X with startx command it failed to start.
I am using Fedora Core 1

what is the error?
Does it throw you back into gnome?

Try setting up going into KDE as normal, log out, and before you log back in
there should be menu's at the bottom, check KDE not last login.

somewhere in you xinit it is starting gnome.
that should be set to KDE.

after switch desktop menu item from gnome it say you must quit and restart X to make changes affective.
When I logout and then startx it fails to start give some sorta error about XFreeconfig file.
On RH9 it was cool to switch desktop. However FC1 is sucking
