Hi, I really hope someone here can help me out fixing this,
[U] The Problem[U]
Kde Menu Editor doesnīt apply the changes, i save, then it shows a pop-up windows displaying "updating configuration" and all goes perfect, but when i go to kde menu 99% of the changes arenīt there, i tried loggin out, even rebooting the computer, but no luck
[U] General Information[U]
Fedora Core 2 Linux Kernel: 2.6.5-1.358 Kde: 3.2.2-6 Red Hat
[U] What i had tried with no luck[U]
1) I erased the ~/.config folder but no luck
2) I erased all the /var/tmp/kdecache-user (each folder of different users), and i tried to create a new one using "kbuildsycoca" but with no luck
[U] Output for: kbuildsycoca (as normal user)[U]
Code:
[electronkz@localhost tmp]$ kbuildsycoca

[U] Other Ouputs[U]
The Output for ~./config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu this file is very large, so i didnīt write it here(if you need just ask, and i send it you somehow)
Some things that come to my attention on that file is the it finish list with the tag <NotDeleted/> and it doesnīt seems to have have the properly filenames in order at least that is what it seems to me
[U] Finally[U]
Itīs 5:36 AM in Uruguay(my Country) i have been trying to fix this all night, with no luck
Plus this is the second time i write this thread, because the first time, i was trying to create a web_page on geocities to post the output of the ./config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu but for some f#$%# reason F#$# Geocities didnīt erased the old index.html and i try to open one of those F#$%# "user_friendly wizards for creating web_pages_posted on geocities" and guest what?? Mozilla Crashed !!!
And i Have to write all this thread again
But Anyway I hope that you the reader of this thread could help me out with this F#$%& problem, Thanks In Advance, and thanks for your time.
|||Electronkz||||
Ps: This Problem Was posted before, abd there are some sites that talks about this problem(bug), but i write this, becuse those things didnīt worked for me
If you need any more information just tell me,
Thanks

Ok, Problem Fixed.
Just Erased ~/.config and ~/.local folders, then i logged out, logged in, open kde menu edit and now it works,
Before i only erased one folder(~./config or ~/.local), but it seems that i needed to erase both.
PS: If you are reading this because you have the same annoying problem, donīt worry about erasing the folders i mentioned above, they will be created automatically next time you log in.
Regards,

Hi I'm having the same problem, I recently made a post, but unfortunately no luck. I'll try removing the local and config dirs. I too I'm using the same O/S and kernel level.

Well I know its not much help to but this solved my problem. I deleted ~/.config and ~/.local and logged off and then back on and was then able to create and save new menu items. Has any one else come across this in Fedora 2 ?

nope, still crapola.. sometimes it saves, sometimes it doesn't and when you delete those folders it resets it all back to where you started with all changes lost.
and even in root the editor shows menu parts that don't show up when you click on the menu.

Avix,
sorry to here your still having problems. mines seams to be sorted now since I did that I can now change my menu. Can I suggest you try deleting those files and from single user mode, then bring the system up, I'm jst guessing but maybe it caches them or some think. I did mine from the command line (level 3) and then brought the system upto level 5 (starts KDE) so you could try it from single user mode to be sure. ?

Well, i know a long time passed, but i will post it in case you, or other people have the same problem.
I think that the bluecurve on Fedora Core 2 is causing this problem, because Gnome And Kde share the menu configuration(new feature) but it has some bugs.
If you have this problem, first try the doing what the above messages tell you.
If the problem persist you can do, what i did as last resort.
I reinstalled FC2, WiThOuT gnome, plus i downloaded the kde rpms from kde.org and i installed theme myself.
Problem Solved!! .
I know that it is not the best solution, it $ucks , but it works.
Good luck!

There apparently is a bug in KMENUEDIT because when i filed mine there were many others related
to it. In root, KDE will accept changes made with kdemenuedit (for me, anyway). When done in normal
user mode, the changes will not stick. I downloaded Gnucash and created a menu item with kdemenuedit and was able to install the link under the "office" tab. No problem. BUT...as normal user, I have 5 gnucash entries listed under "Applications" tab. I can delete them, apply (save) changes, and when I log back on, there they are. Actually, yesterday I had 4 gnucash entries under "Applications", but today there appeared one more. Really, this is not acceptable. What is a desktop manager for if you can't manage your desktop?
Why does KDE release a product without fixing a feature which allows you to place a newly
downloaded and installed program where you want it and with the icon you choose?
Why should you have to jump through hoops by deleting files? I've not read one post that fixes this.
There are many bug reports listing the same thing at KDE.org and most of them say "UNCONFIRMED".
It isn't just Suse. I am using SimplyMepis 2004.02 with KDE 3.2.3 and mine's broken, too. I think if you
have a problem with your KDE, you should file a bug report. Remember, "the squeaky wheel gets the
grease". Maybe if they get 10,000 bug reports, they'll fix it. I also don't want to upgrade/re-install a new
version of a distro every 10 days just to fix stuff like this. Lately, I haven't been USING Linux. All I do is
PLAY with it and read forums.
