KDE Konqueror Web browser sporadically loads pages

Hello everyone

Im fairly new to Linux and have installed the newest distribution of SuSE linux on my home PC. Im having trouble with the default KDE Konqueror when used as a Web Browser. Sometimes it will load a page, then 5 seconds later it wont load the same page, and gives me an error in a page.

The error says: "An error occurred while loading google : Timeout on server Connection was to (google cant post a URL) at port 80". I have a DSL connection.

Ive noticed that the page will load if I first ping the host in a terminal window. If anyone has run into this before I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks,

--JA

I would check the cache settings in Konqueror. See if it is on the default "keep in sync" It it is then try and disable to cache altogether and see if the problem clears up...

Does this only happen in google? sometimes you will get errors in you try to back-up a page in a search because of post data cache errors.

Also Konqueror handles URL's differently.

"www.yahoo.com" is not the same as "yahoo" First one will goto yahoo and second will goto google.

First off thanks for the quick reply kencaz.
I looked at the cache settings and they were set to the default. I then cleared the cache and disabled caching, but im still getting the same errors. Any other ideas?

I really appreciate the help

Hmmm, seems unusual... Does google only report this error? Can't be a firewall port 80 problem since your able to load the page... Has to be a cache issue.

Try another browser, Mozilla, firefox, whatever... I think the problem is probably isolated to Konqueror but can't tell why...

Thanks again kencaz,

Ok I installed Firefox off a CD, and it seems to load pages ok but is very slow. I read that this version 9.0 (I think) has problems with downloading and sometimes drops data. I went to the firefox website to download the latest update however their download link isnt working for me. Do you know any other way I can get it?
