KDE - Keyboard not working

Hi. I have a problem with the keyboard in KDE. On one account on my computer (Fedora Core 4, AMD2600+,Asus A7N8X) the keyboard does not work in KDE. If the same user logs in using GNOME the keyboard works. If I log into my account using KDE, the keyboard works. I've tried looking through the control centre and setting all keyboard related settings to default, but nothing helps? I tried playing around with the window focus strategy, but that didn't help either. At present I'm stumped. I was testing whether the keyboard works using a shell, but other software wouldn't work either.

Any hints?

Thanks in anticipation,

Ross-c

try to remove directory ~.kde/ in your account $HOME.
$ rm -rf .kde/

Yes, it sucks but it's useful!

I am having the same problem wuith KDE on a laptop. Granted I am using Ubuntu not fedora, but I guess the problem is KDE specific. This happens randomly, i'll log on into KDE and my keyboard doesn't work. I can fix it with

$ genkdmconf --no-old --in /etc/kde3/kdm

but after a few logins and log outs, it happens again... I now have a shortcut on my desktop that runs a shell scrip that I can click - it runs genkdmconf and logs me out.. Not ideal!!

I'll happily try this:
$ rm -rf .kde/

and it does suck....

But I am not keen on black box solutions.. my question is WHY does it do this, and what can I do to prevent it happening. I really prefer KDE but I am about to give up and go to GNOME just to save the hassle... Any help anyone can give would be appreciated. Prevention is better (so much better) than cure.
