kde installation

hi all,
i'm using Slackware 9 linux,, and i've just downloaded kde314,as files .tgz. Now i want to install it but i don't now how to. I think i've to run init3 but nothing more, so i'm looking for help before i'll have to unistall everything.

If it's a *.tgz file, then what you need to do is run as root:
# /sbin/installpkg ./kde-whatever.tgz
It should then install it for you. You might have to alter your X configuration file if you want it to be the default windowmanager / desktop manager.

Just a question. Now i've installed kde312, which comes with the installation cd. The *.tgs files i've downloaded are now on a cdrom. I've to remove the old version of kde or the
#/sbin/installpkg ./kde-filename.tgz
upgrade the kde version? an have i to run the command from init3?
