KDE help?
Hello all,
I'm having trouble getting kde to load. I didnt have a problem the last time I installed it, it worked right out of the box.
Heres the setup. Slackware 10.2 Full fresh install. I havent done anything to the system yet, except a few commands trying to get kde to work.
I type in "startkde" in the command line like I used to do, and heres what I get.
xsetroot: unable to open display "
xset: unable to open display ""
xset: uanble to open display ""
xset: unable to open display ""
xsetroot: unable to open display "
startkde: Starting up...
startkde: Running Kpersonalizer
kwin: cannot connect to x server
kpersonalizer: cannot connect to x server
kpersonalizer: cannot connect to x server
kpersonalizer: cannot connect to x server
kpersonalizer: cannot connect to x server
kpersonalizer: cannot connect to x server
kpersonalizer: cannot connect to x server
and then it keeps going on that last line. How do I get it to connect to the x server? I don't know what I have done differntly on this install that wont let it work. Anyideas?
Thanks,
charlie r

use .xinitrc and then execute X, it works better that way :-)

Thanks,
I was doing some more research, and I stumbled across this command.
echo "exec startkde" > ~/.xinitrc
then I ran "startx" and it loaded kde for me right then.
Thanks,
charlie r
