KDE Gone South for the Winter

Greetings.

Suse 10.2

The KDE logon screen used to show seven users.

I added a new user making it eight and how the KDE logon screen only shows one user.

I checked the /etc/sysconfig/Desktop section, added in user there but still didn't show up on the login screen.

I went to the KDE users section in KDE and all the user were there and not listed in the hidden section.

Can anyone help with this issue. I'm disappointed with KDE, as it doesn't seem stable, these things shouldn't suddenly disappear.

I hate to say it but when I add a user to an MS/Windows-XP (no windoz lover) machine the users don't suddenly disappear.

Your help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

If this incident is enough to make you disappointed, I wonder what it would take to invoke your total disgust! :D

I love to say it but when I used winblows, random things would always happen, against my wishes!!!

The login manager theme may just be buggy/broken. Perhaps try another one.

Quite frankly I’m really taken back by your comment.

I’ve fooled around now with Linux for six months, read the man pages asked for help from friends and folks on the net but Linux is at the point now were MS/Windows 3.11 was when it died.

Guess this is what you get for free.

Sure MS/Windows has bugs in it, I host 60 web sites on my MS/Widows 2003 server, never gone down once it two years. To bad I can’t say that about Linux.

Linux is basically a system of text ini files, and LOTS of them too.

Love command line?, well Linux is the place to go, sorry my friend GUI and point and click are the place to be with few exceptions.

Of course MS/Windows has bugs in it. So does IBM z/OS 1.7 but if IBM wrote z/OS like people write Linux IBM would have gone bust years ago.

I’ll keep plugging away at Linux, even without your help and out of place comments and I know in the future some one will come up with a solid version of Linux straight out of the box which really works. And when it really works that's when the will start really charging for it. I’ll trade open office for MS/Office any time and at any price.

Personally I use Firefox rather the IE6 or 7 because it’s just better.

Regarding you statement that items have disappeared from windows in your machine. Send me the details, perhaps I can help you.

BTW, if you can’t say something decent then don’t post any comment at all. Most of the people who I have heard from on this site have been really helpful, this is the first message of this kind I have ever received.

What is really DISTASTEFUL is a message like yours. Next time you post try to be constructive and post suggestions which help to bring about a resolution to an issue. (written with MS/Word).

Wow, quite a tirade there! I was merely pointing out your disappointment in KDE is well a tad over the top.

I gave you a helpful suggestion, it seems to me that you're not willing to investigate whether or not the particular theme you are using is buggy/broken or not.

Think about it, the problem occurred after you made an addidtion. The users are still there on the system, they have not disappeared. They just no longer show in the login manager. Where would you start your diagnosis?

Once the login manager theme has been eliminated as the problem, then we can get down to looking at files.

I could have sent you looking here, there and everywhere, how productive would that have been?

How you can compare the stability of winblows (especially on the serverside) to that of GNU/Linux is an unfortunate choice.

Really?!? LOL.

Before you compare and critisize, read up on what GNU/Linux is about, the great progress it has made (despite all the FUD expounded by messers Ballmer & Co) and maybe then you will learn to appreciate it's liberating qualities.

You can only repair in winblows, that which M$ allows you access to, there are no such restrictions with Open Source.

I see no malice in my previous comment(s), I suspect you take exception to it because you consider yourself somewhat of a techie and, you more than likely object to being told you're over-reacting.

Even though you don't appreciate my initial comment(s), I will still be on hand to assist you, whether you want me to or not.

FYI, they are all solid and they all work, it's just the user that makes it seem otherwise.
