KDE freeze, XFCE don't.. on Debian
Been using Debian with KDE and Gnome on my pc for about a year, no big problems that you ppl and google couldn't help with, must say I've been very pleased with Linux after I made the change from windows. Debian Unstable ran without much trouble at all, but after I went experimental both KDE and Gnome froze after some running time. I figured oh well..it's experimental and decided to do a clean install back to stable/testing.
After I did, KDE freezes (no Gnome this time) after about half an hour. Also, file transfers NFS/Samba/fish is reeeeally slow , around 200 KB/s on 54 Mbit wireless and when in KDE , transfers mostly stall and locks up.
Since I don't have time to do an reinstall right now I apt-getted xfce4 which for some reason always works. Transfers are slow here too btw, but no stalling whatsoever. And xfce4 never freezes or locks up.
Any ideas why KDE freezes or why file transfers are so slow ? KDE from Debian testing is 3.5.1 btw.
NOTE :: Big hand to xfce4 for being reliable where KDE/Gnome ain't.. (for me that is)!

When anything freezes I think of 1 thing: the infamouse SEGV.
They SERIOUSELY NEED TO ALLOCATE THEIR MEMORY!

It has been my experience that konqueror does not correctly show the file transfer process. Whenever you copy a file from one location to another over the network, konqueror starts out with a very fast transfer rate, and then slows down and seems to stall for a while... all the while what's really happening is that the file gets transferred at a steady rate, and successfully. I'm not sure if this is exactly what the OP is experiencing, but just thought I'd share it out.

Problem seems to be solved !
After running a standard fsck on my boot drive, kde doesn't freeze anymore !
The ultraslow network transfers remains however, at least now I can leave it on without the entire pc locking up
Feel free to post any suggestions regarding slow network transfers in a linux network.
