KDE File Association fsck up

Whenever I click a .tar.gz file in konqueror (a link, not local file) it doesn't open it with Ark like it's supposed to do. Instead it identifies it as "Plain text" and asks me if I want to view it with kedit.

I kcontrol I've set .tar.gz to be opened with Ark without questions in an embedded window. But it seems it doesn't recognize the link as anything else than plain text.

Here's the link: http://themes.freshmeat.net/redir/bu...ult-0.1.tar.gz

Same happens here on my system as well. Never run into that before since I mostly use Firwfox for web browsing. Not sure of a fix for that if there is one. Only way around it I can do is save the file then open it locally.

It goes and opens in a new konqueror window here then tells me it is a corrupt binary file however right clicking on the link and choosing Open with Ark from the context menu works fine.

Hm.. so how does kde determine the file format? Appearantly it doesn't care about file extension. Is there a way to fix this?
