kde error

:newbie:

hi,
first i would like to apologize in advance for all the questions and stuff :S

wel here it is i'm getting this error upon kde startup it says
Quote:

kicker - KDialog (<--- that being the title of the dialog box)

Will not save configuartion.

Configuration file
"/home/FishBoy/.kde/share/config/kickerrc" not writable.

Please contact your system administrator.
so i went to that file in 'su' mode and i set the permissions on it to 774 but i'm still getting that error

and i'm also getting another message when i try to install firefox, i extracted the tar file and i moved the directory 'firefox-installer' to '/opt/firefox' and when i try to run it on su mode it tells me
Quote:

Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

(firefox-installer-bin:4605): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
i dont know what that means, but when i try to run it from my account it opens the setup windows for firefox but while installing it gave me a few errors

Quote:

** (firefox-installer-bin:4634): WARNING **: Invalid UTF8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text()

** (firefox-installer-bin:4634): WARNING **: Invalid UTF8 string passed pango_layout_set_text()

[/opt/firefox]*** nsExtensionManager::_disableObsoleteExtensions - failure, catching exception so finalaize window can close

Code:

"/home/FishBoy/.kde/share/config/kickerrc"
is this file owned by fishboy or root??
also check the ownership of the dir leading to it........
make sure fishboy is owner of these....

FishBoy 08-03-2005 09:40 AM

the home directory 'FishBoy' is owned by my account not the root
ok so i changed all the permissions of the leading directories to '750' (rwxr-x---) is that what they're supposed to be??
oh but i own all the directories but the main file 'kickerrc' is owned by root :s
Quote:

-rwxrwxr-- 1 root root 552 2005-08-03 15:04 kickerrc
i hope that it's that that makes it work i'll try to restart the kde system after i finish doing the online update

ok i got the 'kickerrc' error fixed i set all the directories to 750 and then i copied the 'kickerrc' which was a root file and the new copy was under my account name and it's fixed up :D

ok and i got another question i finished installing firefox but the firefox icon is just has a terminal-like picture on it how do i get it to have the firefox logo on it??
