KDE and the missing screensavers

OK so I upgraded kde and now a bunch of the screensavers are not listed in the settings. But the files are still there. In fact I went and upgraded the xscreensavers package(I use slackware). I looked around here and found some bits of information. Putting my login name as part of the shadow group doesnt do anything(what is that group used for anyways, shadow ops?). I can run xscreensaver and they still work. For some reason some of them(a major number of them) dont show up on the list of screensavers under kde. But they show up when I log in as root. I dont think its the permissions since they are the same as the other files under kde. So any ideas as to why I can not see them yet root can?

I don't use KDE, so I am not 100% sure, but my guess is that the particular screen savers are no longer compatible with the new version of KDE you installed

Um no thats not true. As root I can run them just fine through the control center.
