KDE and Gnome Apps in other WMs

This is a bit of newbie question but we all learn by asking questions so...
I was wondering if there was any downside to running KDE and Gnome apps in say, fluxbox, which I'm running, or any other window manger for that matter.

When I run kate or grip in flux does it place some additional load on flux by loading components of Kde or gnome, basically turning flux into something as bloated as KDE or Gnome?

I'm just curious because I'm trying to keep this box as streamlined as possible because its not exactly cutting edge. I don't mind finding alternatives to KDE/Gnome apps, but its tempting to use them since slackware 10 came with so many of them. I eventually plan to reinstall from stratch and attempt to cut down on the installation size, because right now just the install alone has taken up half my hd space.

I haven't done any speed comparisons, but I use Fluxbox (or Blackbox, depending on my mood) with various KDE apps; they usually take a few seconds to load up (probably because of shared KDE libraries or whatnot that might already be loaded if KDE is running) but run pretty smoothly after that.
