Kde 3.2 Nfs

Hi,

does anyone know how to put an NFS device onto the desktop?
i tried "create new -> device -> nfs.." but there are no nfs devices listed in the device combobox although they are listed in fstab. nfs mounting does work from the commandline.

i hope somebody has an idea.

Well do you actually have an NFS server with shares that you can mount from?

yes, i have a nfsserver and i can mount nfs shares. they are listed in fstab like:
hostname:/data /data nfs noauto,user,exec 0 0

All you should really need to do is make a link to your mount point that NFS is mounted to.. like if your mounting the share to /mnt/nfs you can just point the link there or something like that.

yes, but i want to mount the share by rightclicking on it at say mount. maybe it's a bug in kde.
in the devicebox of the nfs icon i put : nfsserver:/data to mount the share /data on the nfsserver but if i try to mount the share i get the message :

The desktop entry file
/home/stereonap/KDEDesktop/NFS
is of type FSDevice but has no Dev=... entry.

then i tried to make the missing dev= entry. i replaced "dev=" with "dev=nfsserver:/data" but mounting through the icon doesn't work like mounting harddisks. it's really strange.

I can mount NFS resources on my KDE desktop ( on Red Hat 9 ) like this......

Main Menu - > Control Center -> Desktop -> Behaviour

At the bottom, you will find the "Devices" section which has various options including

"Display mounted NFS Resource"

So whenever you mount an NFS partition, it should ideally be displayed on your desktop...

However, you'll have to check that out for your own distro (SUSE)..I guess the control center should be common to all distros...

Regards,

amit

coolamit78, thanks for your advice. it worked. it's not exactly what i wanted but close to it.
i wondered if it is possible to manually put an nfs device icon onto the desktop like one can put a harddisk icon onto it. then one could mount and unmount nfsshares like harddisks.
but your advice works well for the moment. thanks for your help.
