kde 3.1, or 3.2 or 3.3?
I recently figured out how to successfully compile and install KDE by source, and so now I can choose which ever KDE version I want to install without being confined to the choice of the distro maker, which is brilliant!
Which version should i pick? kde 3.1.5? or 3.2.3? I don't care to have the latest KDE unless it is more stable and faster. That is what I care most about: speed and stability. Any thoughts? |
If you are not worried about having the latest and greatest, I believe that 3.3 is the current stable version. If all you want is a "workhorse" version, 3.1 or 3.2 are also stable and should have most (if not all) bugs worked out.

i tried out both 3.2.3 and the latest 3.3 using qt 3.3. Surprisingly, I found 3.3 ran faster than 3.2.3. I heard rumors on the net that 3.3 is bloated compared to the earlier ones, but i didn't find that to be the case. Maybe its because i compiled with qt 3.3. Perhaps if i used the older qt, KDE 3.2.3 would run faster. But i can't really be bothered to compile qt 3.2 myself so I'll leave it at that and be content with kde 3.3.

I found 3.3 to be better and faster than 3.2 and I feel the same way about 3.4 cvs. My opinion is that since you are going to be compiling this yourself, why not just use the latest stable release.
