i must not have been very clear in my problem description. I will try again.
I want to be able to stretch a window across multiple desktops. like a window divided into 4 panes.
Imagine an open window positioned into the bottum right hand corner of desktop 1. so that only 1/4 of the window is visible. the other parts of that window would be visible on the other 3 desktops.

yes, i do beleave that is exactly what i ment!.

blast!...i really dont like the current gnome configuration on redhat 9 . and messing with X is just slightly less dangerous than messing with the kernel!
