Kazaa Lite
 

I have WINE installed, and it runs good. What do I need to do to get Kazaa Lite running?

A miracle... a clue.. and.. ah, to use the right site to ask for help, which would be the wine application database, not linux questions.

What an awful response. His question is a GNU/Linux question and it is posted in the Linux - Software section. Last time I checked WINE was considered to be Linux software.

Anyways, I tried to get wine working several months ago. After asking around I found out that people had reported getting it working by adding these lines to their /wine/config file and downloading the appropriate dlls (the ones listed in the config example) after doing this I got a couple of problems to go away but could never get it to fully load. If you figure out how to get it working please let me know.

Have you tried using LimeWire?

There is a free Linux version for download, all you need is Java Runtime instead of funkie-fake Windows APIs. As for Wine¸ if you want full Windows functionality -- just download an XP iso off of LimeWire, HA!

Wether it not it was.. "lots of help" or "awful response." There is no reason at all to post a question here, that has no less than 12 fully detailed tutorials for on the actual wine site! A lot more problems would get solved on LinuxQuestions if the ones that are already solved elsewhere werent asked.

To criticize the thread starter for bringing this question up is ridiculous.

The least that one could do if one knew of "no less than 12 fully dedicated tutorials" for this would be to give the URL of at least one such tutorial. There's no reason to be a jerk about it.

Chaos, I'd look into Gift with Apollon as the UI. Its a Linux native app that can connect to the Kazaa (fasttrack) network and also other filesharing networks. It works really well in my opinion. You can get some info here. Since its Linux native, its performance will be better than trying to run Kazaa Lite with Wine.

If you are using Mandrake, you can snag Mandrake specific rpms for all this from Penguin Liberation Front rpm repositories using Mandrake's software installer aka urpmi. If you dont' know how to add PLF repositories to your source lists, let me know and I'll help you out.

lime wire is okay....
but it requires you to download and install java runtime environment...
and at 20 megs, is a bit of a waste only to use for one program.

the Only file shareing program that seems to be any good at all (in my opinion)
is gtk-gnutella... infact id go as far as to say its BETTER than kazaa.

BTW, if anyone does know how to get KAzaaLite to run.. id like to know as well.. but i am going to try the above gnutella. (i dont like limewire)

Trey and Chaos both,

I would really recommend looking at Gift.

It lets you search both Kazaa and Gnutella and OpenFT networks at once for files. There are plenty of graphical user interfaces for it also. Apollon is great. Here are some screenshots.

now they even have this nice tarball with all the plugins that u need (gnutella, openft, fattrack), u only have to install it and config it, it's like 3 mins of work even for a n00b like me..

I didn't know that giFT supported the fasttrack and gnutella. I thought when I used it in the past it only supported openFT. Anyways, I tried it out last night and it worked extreamly well. No more Kazaa for me.
