Kate (text editor) on Cygwin - how to?

Hi all

At uni the terminals use the linux environment and I use the text editor "Kate" for most of my coding. I would like to replicate the linux environment on my windows xp machine at home, and heard cygwin was supposed to be good.

How can I install Kate onto cygwin? Will I need to install KDE packages as well? The whole thing seems very could someone provide step-by-step instructions as I'm not very good at the whole linux thing...

Thank you so much for your help, Ian.

okay ive followed the instructions religiously, but when i get to the extracting the tar files section - with this command:
tar -C / -xjf qt-x11-free-3.3.4-1.tar.bz2
it didnt work, so i had to use this one:
tar -C / -xf qt-x11-free-3.3.4-1.tar.bz2

and then this one didnt work:
find /opt/qt/3.3 /opt/kde3.4 -name '*.dll' > /tmp/files.lst

so im a bit stuck as to what to do now.

thanks for your help!

I got stuck in the step where I have to enter the command

bin/ash bin/rebaseall -b 0x61000000 -v -T tmp/files.lst

from which I get the following answer:

bin/rebaseall: Can't open bin/rebaseall: No such file or directory

I find it strange since I have followed all other steps stricktly as indicated.

I could use some help with this. Thanks.
