Kanotix - killed the gui >_>
 

heya, not sure if this should be in help or in here
i have a problem - i killed my GUI
im using kanotix RC6

it uses KDE with a modified theme.
someone else set up most of my system(full ntfs read write support, file sharing etc) though SSH
i just installed a few apps through apt-get install <package>

the gfx card drivers wernt working properly so i used apt-cache search ati and downloaded the xorg-driver-fglrx package
afterwards the gui stopped working. ive since deleted the ati folder from /etc/ati and removed the xorg driver with apt-get remove

i have no idea how to get the GUI running again.

another weird problem is that samba doesnt work properly unless i type in /etc/init.d/samba restart

the gfx card is 9600XT
basic system specs:
9600xt
2500+ OC
abit nf7-s v2 mobo
some generic sata add in cards
bunch of hdds
netgear gigabit adaptor

If you can get to a command prompt (Ctrl+Alt+F1), type:
ati is the open-source driver, fglrx is the proprietary driver. If none of those work, then select vesa for now.
