Kaffeine DVD encryption

Hi all,

I have recently installed sidux but can not watch DVD video. I am not too new to Linux, but certainly the KDE, and hence Kaffeine.

Please could someone advise what is needed.

Many thanks.

Sidux?

Stick with the main distros......Suse Linux/Ubuntu/Red Hat. They have package repositories and when you install a package, it will install all dependencies. I use mplayer/win32 codecs/libdvdcss...Watch anything! I installed Opensuse 10.3, what a beautiful distro. Installed easy, and everything worked perfectly. I just had to install madwifi/modem driver. Of course EVERY distro needs some tweaking.

Sidux is based on Debian Unstable. You need to install libdvdcss and this article has details on how you can do this.

You may also want to consider the legality of libdvdcss in your country as I think ( very not sure about this ) its not allowed in some.

Of course I could be thinking of something else.......

I believe in Kaffeine you choose between using xine or mplayer as your "engine". Have you gotten dvd playback in either of those before?

I added the following repositories:

deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org/ sid main
deb-src http://www.debian-multimedia.org/ sid main

Then installed libdvdcss2, I have not been able to test the new configuration.

Regards.

Test it and gives us some feedback about whether it works or not.

Hi,

Sorry for not giving the most detailed reply (although I am very grateful). I was configuring a friends box, they tell me that DVD's are now playing. So, adding the extra repositories worked :D

Sidux is a MAIN distro! It's basically an off shoot of debian. It's a stable of the unstable. I installed it and waited for all the problems but so far it has preformed excellent. They have a strong following. Just go to sidux.com and you will get all the help you need. I installed debian because of its speed an stability. Now I'm using Sidux because its even faster.
