k9copy/dvdauthor error

I am trying to use k9copy to make a backup of a dvd I own.

I start k9copy as root and when I open the dvd it loads with the title and and menus. When I try to copy the dvd it thinks a minute then comes back with a popup box that says:

authoring - k9copy

An error occured while running DVDAuthor:
sh: vamps: command not found
ERR: Error reading from pipe: No such file or directory

I have dvd author installed and have gone through all the settings, the location for the temp file is ok. I have searched the forum and google and can not find this error. Anyone run into this or know how I can fix it?

Apparently k9copy needs vamps to run, and you either don't have it, or it's broken in your system. It's strange though, as I have k9copy but no vamps, and it works. Perhaps it's built in to the program? If this one is broken, maybe you should try stepping back to an earlier version of it.

Oh, and you do also have decss or an equivalent installed, don't you?

BTW, it's not recommended to run programs as root. Add your regular user to the dvd group (or cdrom, or whatever the device group is on your system) so it can access the drive directly.

Hmm I tried running both as root and my user to just be sure.

Im running Slackware 10.2 Kernel 2.4.31. I didn't install decss and am not sure if its part of this kernel or not. I also checked etc/groups and don't see a dvd group, I have a cdrom and audio and video groups. Could that also cause probelms? I can accss the dvd drive fine as far as seeing files on it and so on.

ok I added the vamps and created a dvd group and added myself to it and it worked. It was slow as hell and only burned at 6x as opposed to 16x, but I'll mess with that. It works so thats good.
