k3b writing only 15 megs of a 900 meg file

Hi everyone,

I'm having a problem with k3b when trying to write an mpeg2
file to a dvdr.

I have cdrdao 1.2.2 installed. What happens is k3b appears to show that the 900 meg file is completely written to the dvd, but if you look at the size of the file that was created it is only about 15 megs in size.

The dvd burner I'm using in this case is an HP 530i. This is strange because I have another computer which has a BENQ DVD Dual DW1610 drive and I don't have any problems writing large files.

Both computers have FC1.

I'm stumped, anyone have any ideas?

If you are using the same software on two computers and only one computer has problems then it is probably a hardware problem. I am no longer impressed with brand names with DVD burners. I have two Sony DVD burners and one of them can't burn a CD without errors. I have two more DVD burners with generic brands and they both work great.

First I would want to see if the file that won't copy to DVD is bad. Try copying a different file of the same size to a DVD on the problem machine. You could also try making a second copy of the problem file on the same machine and burn that to a DVD.

If the problem machine only fails to burn the problem file and will successfully burn other files of the same size then it is the file's fault. If the machine won't burn any file of that size then it is probably a hardware problem.
