k3b won't burn cue images

For some reason k3b won't burn my cue image. It burns audio or data CDs but won't burn this cue image. When I view the debugging information it says:
Code:
System
-----------------------

KDE Version: 3.4.1
QT Version: 3.3.4
Kernel: 2.4.29
Devices

SCSI interface library - (C) Joerg Schilling
Paranoia DAE library - (C) Monty
Check http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/drives.html#dt for current driver tables.
Using libscg version 'schily-0.8'
ATAPI:/dev/hdd: LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1673S Rev: JS05
Using driver: Generic SCSI-3/MMC - Version 2.0 (options 0x0010)
Burning entire 79 mins disc.
Starting write ERROR: Cannot retrieve drive capabilities mode page.

Process can be aborted with QUIT signal (usually CTRL-\).
ERROR: Cannot retrieve write parameters mode page.
ERROR: Cannot setup write parameters for session-at-once mode.
ERROR: Please try to use the 'generic-mmc-raw' driver.

cdrdao command:

/usr/bin/cdrdao write --device ATAPI:/dev/hdd --driver generic-mmc:0x00000010 --speed 48 -n -v 2 --force --eject --remote 19 /tmp/kde-mark/k3bDOhMpa.tmp.cue
Any ideas?

The error messages says:

ERROR: Please try to use the 'generic-mmc-raw' driver.

Have you tried that? If so, what was the result?

Well I tried this command, /usr/bin/cdrdao write --device ATAPI:/dev/hdd --driver generic-mmc:0x00000010 --speed 48 -n -v 2 --force --eject --remote 19 /tmp/kde-mark/k3bDOhMpa.tmp.cue , which is copy and paste of the cdrdao command it lists there only substituing that driver and the real file location of the cue image. This is what I got...
Code:
Cdrdao version 1.1.9 - (C) Andreas Mueller <andreas@daneb.de>
SCSI interface library - (C) Joerg Schilling
Paranoia DAE library - (C) Monty

Check http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/drives.html#dt for current driver tables.

Using libscg version 'schily-0.8'

ATAPI:/dev/hdd: LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1673S Rev: JS05
Using driver: Generic SCSI-3/MMC (raw writing) - Version 2.0 (options 0x0000)

Burning entire 79 mins disc.

It looks like there's a firmware update available for your drive (JS07 release). I'd try that first. If you still have problems, then you can try filing a bug report with your distribution. However, I noticed that your drive isn't list as being supported.

An alternative is to try cdrecord. You can tell k3b to give you the option of which application to use:

Menu Settings -> Configure k3b -> Writing -> Advanced tab -> Manual writing application selection.

Once that's checked, k3b will provide a drop-down box that will let you select the program (cdrecord/cdrdao) when you go to burn. Select cdrecord and see if that works for your drive.

On the firmware page, can you figure out how to download it? I've looked all over and can't figure out how to download... Also the cue image won't burn on the memorex eitehr. However, the memorex used to burn cue and iso files when I had debian. So I know it's not a firmware thing.

About the cdrecord option, whenever I selected cdrecord, it'd still try to burn with the cdrdao command, as if I didn't select cdrecord.

just out of curiosity, does k3b understand the .bin/.cue combos made in (nero i think it is) for windows?

If so that would be nice to know, then at least i could try to burn a CD and then copy the data off of the CD back to the HD in either .iso or just raw data.

Well I have found a work around. I was curious if .iso's burned, and they do, which is a splendid thing. I then went to find a cue to iso converter and found this . I installed and used this program and it work perfectly.

nice find. i tried binchunker a while back and never had any luck with it. it could handle the .bin, but without the .cue it was worthless data.

I think with bchunk you need both the .bin and .cue images.

sorry for not being clear. the program i was using did not know what to do with the .cue file. it could attempt to mount/read the .bin, but there was nothing usable due to it having no clue how to handle the .cue portion that tells nero what to do with the .bin.
