k3b unable to PERFORM OPC: Input/output error

hi all!

I have been using k3b for quite a long while now and it has been faithfully burning flawless cds and dvds... Admitedly I havent burnt anything on this machine in quite sometime now... However, today I cannot burn DVDs... just when I need it the most... for my friends wedding on sat... so If you can help me ASAP I would be grateful...

My hardware... I am using an ACER 3003NLMi laptop Sempron 3000+ with DVD-Dual (Support for DVD+R, Double Layer DVD+/-RW). I am trying to burn on Datawrite 4.7GB DVD-R media.

Distro is Mandriva 2006 Free which is updated...

I did try to use other programs (frontends actually) all refused to burn the DVD but one Graveman did burn the DVD all 4.4GB of it, even gave successfully completed message but the DVD is not readable. k3b disk info shows one track/session of 2kb on the DVD even though I can see (by difference in reflectivity of the DVD) that it is almost completely filled

Here is the error output from k3b

again... a speedy solution to this is really what i need as I need this done ASAP... yesterday!

thanks.

lib

Hi,
I wish I had an answer to your problem ,because I have the exact same problem with both K3b and Mandriva 2006..I don't know how it happened either but I know it did work when first installed..
The cdrom/dvd drive works for all other functions and can even play dvd's with kaffene..
I will be watching this post for an answer and hope you get a resolution soon..
Goodluck,
jolphil

hi all!

i dont know how or why things changed but i did manage to burn the required DVD's by running k3b as root...

so that would mean that its a permissions problem... didnt have time to rectify the problem then... as i had to get it done quickly... However, I still cant figure out why or how this permission thing came up :-S the only thing i can think of that changed is that i filled up my hardisk with the stuff i had to burn... only have about 2GB free on the whole hard drive... /home has only 1.6GB... havent emptied out my hardrive yet... so dont know if that is the problem... I dont know why it should be because it was set to burn without creating an image file. and as root it did burn with the same amount of freespace...

hope someone out there figures this out...

lib.
