k3b, SuSE 9.1 and kernel 2.6.X

Well after scouring the net for an answer as to why k3b and SuSE 9.1 do not agree and most audio cd's that I attempt to burn are turned into coasters...

Apparently, it is a conflict with the kernel version 2.6.8

However, I did find that if you run k3b as root, k3b burns just fine.

Are there any security issues when doing this? Also, has anyone found a solution for this?

This post may help, I've only tested erasing a cdr/w with it but it looks good so far.

When you run k3b as root, it can change the permissions on the cdrecord permissions so that a user can execute it. The issue is cdrecord being a hackjob, not k3b or the kernel persay. You can do this in the k3b setup as root.

new kernel update available as of today(8/30) via online update should fix this(that's what their release notes say anyway).
