k3b speed issues

i have a sony dru-510 A which supports 4x writing of DVD+/-R/RW...however in k3b i keep getting "input/output" or PC errors for both R/RW when i try writing at 4x....

DVD-R's - OPC failed ..max speed i can write is 2x

DVDRW - Input/output error...max speed i can write is 2.5x

i dont have any simliar problems using nero in windows ..please help..

Is nero having the same problem, but silently ignoring it?
Some burners need a bios (drive bios) upgrade to correctly recognise the max speed more recent discs.

The 510 does work with Linux; I have one that I use all the time with Mandrake. I often use K3B.

Have you done the bios update on it? I needed to do that, and unfortunately you have to use Windows to do it.

ok good news( in a way) this problem is not only linux related, cause Nero only reported that it was writing at 4x but it lies..the speed is the same..thanks for the help!
