k3b problems
I have k3b installed, in a nutshell, it's a program that gives the cdrecord command a gui.
My problem is, when I start the program, it brings up a splash screen that says scanning for cdrom devices, and then it says starting gui, then nothing happens.
Anyone know what my problem might be?
Any help is appreciated.
edit: I'm running slackware 9.1 if it makes a difference.

For what it is worth: I once had a similar symptom, and clicking on the main window removed the splash screen. It looked like k3b was checking available hardware/packages, and then was just forgetting to hide the splash screen... The burning quality was not affected by this peculiarity. The system did have some package dependency issues (it was a mix of Debian Sarge and SID).

It didn't even bring up a main window behind the splash.
Perhaps I don't have all the dependencies.

I also had the some of the same problems.
The burning utilitie worked perfect a couple of weeks ago, the something happened.
First the program behaved unstable. It would hang at some point during a burn process (This is the first time in years I've wasted a CDr due to a burning error). Then it started to hang at the splash screen, like described above.
In an attempt to fix this, I installed the latest version, 0.11.17
Now it will show the splash screen, then I'll see the main window in a fraction of a second before it shots down and dissapears.
I'm quite new to Linux. Can someone please give me a hint here.

Did you de-install the old version?

open a console and try running k3b like this :
when it acts up check the output in the console...the last few lines or so should give you an idea where it's hanging up at..

I did not deinstall the old version. I was told that the RPM package should resolve this. I'm planning to try that tonight. Maybe after trying that second tips.

OK, don't really know why it didn't work, but I uninstalling bot k3b and cdrecord and then reinstalled them from the distro cds. Now I didn't do any online updates, so I'm actually running older versions, but it works again.
Thanks for trying to help

If you ever find out, don't forget to post the solution here. If necessary, there is the button "My Threads" at the right to find this place again. Good luck .
