k3b problems
ok i think this has something with the permissions on my cdrom drive but i can make cds in k3b from mp3s and stuff off or my hard drive but if i try to copy a cd it says it cant open device /dev/sr0 which is my bruner, and im not copying from another drive when i do this. /dev/sr0 is the only drive im using for making cds. ive truied setting permissions and messing with the groups thing but nothing seems to work. i assume this is related to my problem with rippex, i cant use it unless i run it as root. can anyon ehelp me?

Have you mounted this cd drive? You will need to create a folder for that drive and then mount the /dev/sr0 to it.
i dont need to mount the cd drive. all this stuff works fine when i run it as root.
Then go into user manager and give yourself permission to use the cdrom. :)
ok ive chmodded the permisions for /dev/sr0 and /dev/cdrom and nothing is happening

You need to use the user/groups manager program, if you have one (you should) for slackware, and edit your user account to be in the group for cd recording and cdrom.
ok i added my user to the disk group in /etc/group but that didnt work. what is this group manager in slackware called.
I wish I knew doralsoral. I haven't tried slackware yet. I was hoping you knew how to edit your users/groups. I'm sorry. Maybe you could ask this question on the slackware distribution forum here and see if anyone tells you.
Do you use a desktop environment like kde, gnome, fluxbox, etc?
gnome
That could be a problem then. K3b works fine with kde (at least it does for me with kde3.2.2) but I don't think it is very compatible with gnome. Gnome has it's own cd burner programs. I logged into my gnome and couldn't find a user/group manager in it. Maybe someone who uses Gnome alot can answer your question about how to edit users/groups to give permissions.
Did you try, as root, to chmod 777 your /dev/sr0? Also you will need to do the same to k3b directory and it's execute file.
I just re-read your first post again and you mention rippex. Do you have this set to chmod 777?
ok k3b works fine with gnome it has to be a permissions problem or i just messed something up because now im thinking it used to work. i ended up reformatting for other reasons so i'll see if it works now.
