k3b pauses for a long time

I'm having an odd problem with the cd writing program k3b under OpenSuSE 10.3. It starts up normally, writes maybe 30 MB, and then stops. But it's not dead -- maybe 15 minutes later it will write another 30MB. I tried "renicing" the process to -10 and that made no difference at all. I've seen threads about slow k3b and dead k3b, but no one seems to have quite this problem.

And when it's done, it goes crazy

After over two hours, the CD writing finally completed -- and the k3b window went wild, flashing continuously for several minutes. It's as though there was some pent-up activity that was released when the CD writing was done.

hang, k3b, pause
