k3b install problem

these are the steps:
#

Extract the source to a temporarly directory:

tar -xjvf k3b-0.11.17.tar.bz2

and change to the created directory:

cd k3b-0.11.17

#

Configure the source:

./configure
everything goes good and it looks like it finishes but at the very end i get this error: checking for X... configure: error: "Can't find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!"

and i cant get to this stuff yet, though i tried to move on, which im guessing is useless:

#

Start the compilation:

make
I do this and get his error: make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.

#

And finally if the command above did not show any errors install K3b:

su -c "make install"
I did this step too and get this error: make: *** No rule to make target `install'. Stop.

(You will have to type in your root password.)

# Now you may start K3b from the KMenu (Multimedia section) or run it from a shell or the Alt-F2 menu via 'k3b'.

thanks for all your help!

Any perticular reason not to use the rpm ?

Anyway, you need the X dev package that contains the header files. I won't compile without that.

yeah there is a reason im not using the rpm,

i dont have a clue as to what im doing...this is the first week on a linux machine....

will i need the X package in order to use the rpm?

The rpm is a binary package so you don't need the development packages of X or anything.

However it will have dependencies : it will require other packages that you might not yet have installed.

There is a utility called yum that will work that out completely for you.

If you have it installed then it's just as simple as typing

yum install k3b (as root)

if it says that the command is not recognised, then you have to install that first.

I don't know whitebox so I won't be more specific but you should be able to apply any help you find for redhat.....
