Lightbulb k3b fails. I wonder....

k3b fails to write dvd .iso images. No matter DVD+ or - .

Gives all the same output:

Code:
System
-----------------------
K3b Version:0.11.17
KDE Version: 3.2.3
QT Version: 3.3.2

growisofs
-----------------------
Executing 'builtin_dd if=/home/slackerlx/sarge-i386-1.iso of=/dev/hdc obs=32k seek=0'
/dev/hdc: engaging DVD-R DAO upon user request...
:-( Failed to change write speed: 0->2770

growisofs comand:
-----------------------
/usr/bin/growisofs -Z /dev/hdc=/home/slackerlx/sarge-i386-1.iso -use-the-force-luke=notray -use-the-force-luke=tty -use-the-force-luke=dao -dvd-compat -speed=0.5

Okay, as the error message says, that it is not able to detect the write speed you should try to set it in the menu. Does CD-burning works? If yes, you might miss some of the dvd plugins/functions which you have to install separatly due to legal reasons.
If no, the burner is not recognised correctly.
Good luck
Lars

Frankly speaking I installed all dvd plugins and libraries that http://www.linuxpackages.net/ could offer
Interesting that with CD's of 700MB no problem at all

I have something like this (okay its mandrake but should be also avaible for slackware):
Name: dvd+rw-tools
Version:5.17.4.8.6-1mdk
Größe: 167 KB

Zusammenfassung: Tools for burning on DVD+RW compliant burner

Beschreibung: As for cdrecord[-ProDVD]. DVD+RW/+R recording strategy is somewhat different from one supported by cdrecord. DVD+RW (but not DVD+R) is a true random write access media and therefore is suitable for housing of arbitrary filesystem, e.g. udf, vfat, ext2, etc. This, and this alone, qualifies DVD+RW support for kernel implementation.

Even though modified kernel can let you put for example an ext2 filesystem on DVD+RW, it's probably not very practical, because you most likely want to access the data on arbitrary computer. Or in other words you most likely want ISO9660.

Dateien:
?/usr/bin/dvd+rw-booktype
?/usr/bin/dvd+rw-format
?/usr/bin/dvd+rw-mediainfo
?/usr/bin/growisofs
?/usr/share/doc/dvd+rw-tools-5.17.4.8.6
?/usr/share/doc/dvd+rw-tools-5.17.4.8.6/index.html

okay, have checked your link. there is the tool, too. Though i guess you have installed it. Else my question is why you use growisofs? I do not know that program. All I know is mkisofs.
Good luck
Lars

P.S. data dvd burning, video playing and so on works all fine?

How does the command look like when you use suse 9.1? May be the growisofs has an bug and Suse is using mkisofs?
You tried ever cdrecord alone?
Sorry, for being not able to do more for you.

Try this

Try setting the speed pull down menu in K3b to "Ignore" and that may fix your problem.
