K3b error burning cue/bin images

Hi all,

when I try to burn a cue/bin image in k3b I get a write error. I tried using cdrecord and cdrdao and both failed. I can burn any other data without problems (including iso images). I found posts of people having similar problem but didn't find any solution. I suppose is a problem with cdrecord/cdrdao and not with k3b.

I tried to burn the same image in Win98 (with FireBurner) and it worked! That made me depressed and I'd prefer not to use Windowz. Also I tried a testing cue/bin from vcdimager site to ensure my files are not corrupted.

I also tried to burn the mpeg file directly in K3b (as a VideoCD project), without creating previously the image. K3b will use vcdxbuild to create an image on the fly. That returned the same error . Any idea about what might be the problem? I'd massively appreciate your help.

k3b messages when I start burning:

A dry run: do everything except write the CD.

I didn't use the _simulate_ option the first time, and I got the same errors. That didn't actually ruined the blank CD, because no data was written. Using simulate cdrdao should read all data and do like writing. However, cdrdao and cdrecord stop in 1 second:

(cdrdao output)
cmd finished after 0.001s timeout 180s
ERROR: Write data failed.
ERROR: Simulation failed.

After a lot of testing I found the problem!!. vcdimager always adds to the cue sheet the flag DCP (Digital Copy Permitted). Some recorders do not support creating tracks with the DCP bit set. That's why the writing process quits without writting anything at all.

This is the default cue file created by vcdxbuild (or vcdimager):

FILE "svcdfile.bin" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 MODE2/2352
INDEX 00 00:04:00
INDEX 01 00:06:00

It can be solved simply by removing the 'FLAGS DCP' lines from the cue file. They are not absolutely required for creating (S)VCD. I couldn't find an vcdimager option to use from the command line.

So it isn't actually a problem with cdrdao or cdrecord. I assume that they already have support to understand such flags in a cue file. It's a simple solution but not easy to find from the little error info.

I hope that posting the solution can help others searching for similar problems.
