k3b cdrecord/cdrdao with root privilege error

After starting k3b I get this error message:

Quote:
cdrecord will be run without root privileges
It is highly recommended to configure cdrecord to run with root privileges. Only then cdrecord runs with high priority which increases the overall stability of the burning process. Apart from that it allows changing the size of the used burning buffer. A lot of user problems could be solved this way. This is also true when using SuSE's resmgr.
Solution: Use K3bSetup to solve this problem.
cdrdao will be run without root privileges
It is highly recommended to configure cdrdao to run with root privileges to increase the overall stability of the burning process.
Solution: Use K3bSetup to solve this problem.
I press the k3b setup button and fill in my root password, k3b setup screen comes up and I press the apply button. Then I get this error message:

Quote:
Could not update all permissions.
who can help to set cdrecord/cdrdao with root privileges?

Here's what I do:

1. Identify cdrecord executables

debian:~# ls -l /usr/bin/cdrecord*
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 133 Jan 10 10:15 /usr/bin/cdrecord
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 367320 Jan 10 10:15 /usr/bin/cdrecord.mmap
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 367352 Jan 10 10:15 /usr/bin/cdrecord.shm

2. Setuid

debian:~# chmod u+s /usr/bin/cdrecord
debian:~# chmod u+s /usr/bin/cdrecord.mmap
debian:~# chmod u+s /usr/bin/cdrecord.shm

3. Check for success

debian:~# ls -l /usr/bin/cdrecord*
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 133 Jan 10 10:15 /usr/bin/cdrecord
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 367320 Jan 10 10:15 /usr/bin/cdrecord.mmap
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 367352 Jan 10 10:15 /usr/bin/cdrecord.shm

I don't know if it's necessary to change them all, but it works for me.

Thanks for the help! Adding myself to the "disk" group didn't work. Rick's tip worked perfect with one addition:

First I did:

Code:
debian:~# chmod u+s /usr/bin/cdrecord
debian:~# chmod u+s /usr/bin/cdrecord.mmap
debian:~# chmod u+s /usr/bin/cdrecord.shm
I also needed to change cdrdao:
Code:
debian:~# chmod u+s /usr/bin/cdrdao

I have a problem. Those files are not there except cdrecord.

debian:~# ls -a /usr/bin | grep cdrecord
cdrecord
debian:~#

If you have a recently updated Etch, cdrecord no longer exists except as a link to wodim.

# chmod +s /usr/bin/wodim
