k3b can't burn in dao mode


everytime I try to burn an image, which burns in dao mode, I get

cdrdao returned an unknown error (code 1)
operation not permitted

I have an NEC ND-6650A, running slackware 10.2

here is the debugging output:

Does it work as root? I had this issue on Gentoo but it was because my user account wasn't a member of the cdrw group.

Yes, that is what I tried burning it as anyways.
