k3b and gToaster freeze at startup on Mdk-10
 

I am using Mandrake 10. In 50-60% of the cases, attempting to run k3b causes it to freeze
while "scanning for CD devices". Therefore it doesn't actually start. More importantly, the CD drives get blocked immediately, so nothing else can read them. When I reboot the system, it says something like "hdc seems confused" and also something like "can't unmount /home".

My guess is that the freeze only happens when I first insert a CD into the drive, and *then* start k3b. By the way, the same problem is with GnomeToaster 1.0Beta6. Also an indefinite freeze.

Anybody has seen this before and can help? I'd appreciate ANY feedback, as this is a very big problem for me.

Is there any way to at least unblock the CDROMS after the freeze?
