K3B and cdrecord errors


I am trying to burn cds, well K3B keeps erroring out on me. I did a reinstall of K3B and cdrecord and now it says that my CD burner cannot burn cds..?

I am running a 2.6.8.1 kernel with Gnome 2.8 on Debian Sid.

I use Ubuntu (kernel 2.6.8-1/Gnome 2.8) and I have to run k3b as root or it gets upset. (Either doesn't work or works and screws up the .ICEAuthority file)
Running it as root however makes it work just fine.

I don't know if there's a connection between this and your problem.
