K3B and Brasero can't format Rewritable DVD.

Hello.
I have a Rewritable DVD and want to format (clear) it but K3B and Brasero can't do it. My DVD writer is Pioneer DVR-221L.
What is your idea?

Tnx.

Then I have to say I don't have any suggestions. I seldom use rewritable optical media and haven't encountered the problem myself, though I have found K3B to be much more reliable than Brasero.

Well, I guess I have one suggestion: try using command line tools to erase/format the disc. They might provide some useful feedback to the terminal: http://www.systutorials.com/3706/lin...e-dvdrw-disks/

When I re-use a rewriteable XFburn automatically writes over (clears the DVD) what is already on the disk for me. You can use the terminal to erase a CD/VDV:-

Run these 2 commands to blank out the DVD.-

Code:
unmount /dev/cdrom
cdrecord dev=/dev/cdrom blank=fast
Worked for me in the past.

In that case; your re-writable is probably old.

I have a few old ones that won't erase and or aren't recognized at all.

Why Windows can erase it?

I'm not sure; I haven't ran Windows in about 5 years.

If I had to guess it could be module/driver related.

Input/output error could mean a bad cable or connection to the drive.

Agreed; it's happened to me.
After replacing the SATA cable to my HDD my distro booted right up.
The cable went bad as it was tied to the case with one of those ties.

If the disk came from Windows that could explain it. I can't erase nor write data to a DVD or CD RW that was first used in Windows on my Mac either it's a one way trip from my PC to my Mac.
