K3b 0.11.17 and Pioneer DVR-108

Hello to everybody,
First let me make an introduction about my DVD-RW drive. I bought a TEAC DV-W516D (also supports DL burning) drive which is a disguised Pioneer DVR-108 drive. I was using it with k3b with no problem. But I decided to flash the firmware to make it region free. Since I did (successfully), with the new pioneer dvr-108 1.14 firmware (http://forum.rpc1.org/) I get an error message from k3b. It says "cannot set speed". When I set the speed setting "ignore", it starts writing in maximum speed (16X in 4X media). I am using growisofs v5.21

Any ideas or solutions?

George.

The exact output of k3b is:

Code:
System
-----------------------
K3b Version:0.11.17
KDE Version: 3.1.4
QT Version: 3.2.1

growisofs
-----------------------
/dev/hdc: engaging DVD-R DAO upon user request...
:-[ Failed to change write speed: 22160->2770

growisofs comand:
-----------------------
/usr/bin/growisofs -Z /dev/hdc -use-the-force-luke=notray -use-the-force-luke=tty -use-the-force-luke=dao -dvd-compat -speed=2 -overburn -gui -graft-points -volid Movies -volset -appid K3B THE CD KREATOR VERSION 0.11.17 (C) 2003 SEBASTIAN TRUEG AND THE K3B TEAM -publisher -preparer K3b - Version 0.11.17 -sysid LINUX -volset-size 1 -volset-seqno 1 -sort /tmp/kde-root/k3bXnoTrb.tmp -rational-rock -hide-list /tmp/kde-root/k3bNOyaoc.tmp -full-iso9660-filenames -iso-level 2 -path-list /tmp/kde-root/k3bw03sub.tmp

I am also using kernel 2.6.8.1

kernel 2.6.8.1 sucks

I ruined a few cd's trying to burn using k3b and that kernel. I then used 2.6.9, but was only able to burn data cd's,
but still no audio cd's (the program freezes).

I changed to 2.6.7 and now I it works.

I know my problem was completely different than yours, but in the k3b homesite (www.k3b.org) in latest news there's a
message that says "Do not use kernel 2.6.8".

Thanks for the reply!
I'll try 2.6.9 and see the results.

Well in my case the program (k3b) works fine but there is a growisofs error. I switched to 2.6.9 but no luck. It does not seem like a kernel problem. But why it cannot change speeds?

In "winblowz" with nero it works fine...

The rpc-1 firmware I used allows the drive to burn in speeds from 1-16 in any media. Can this be related to the problem?

works on 2.6.9 here

Ravendark, I'm on 2.6.9 with growisofs 5.21 and k3b-0.11.17, works fine here, if you updated the firmware, I think that's where your problem is.

Weel it was the firmware after all. I replaced it with another rpc-1 one and it works ok!
