Yeah, copying the file over won't work, it has to be linked. There must have been a typo in the ln -s command when you tried it the first time.

update: finally got it to work.

I did:
1. go to firefox plugings directory and open up a terminal a root.

2. type: ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_04/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so libjavaplugin_oji
