Question Just downloaded xmule1.4.2...

Here's the install :-

INSTALL
-------

You will need glib/gtk-1.2.10 (package names like glib and glibdev or
glib-devel, gtk and gtkdev or gtk-devel) and libexpat (package name should be
expat) to compile xMule. Also wxWindows-2.4.0 or greater, linked against
glib/gtk-1.2.10 is needed (package names wxGTK and wxGTK-devel).

I have used GCC 2.95.2, 3.2, and 3.3 to compile xMule, older GCC's probably
can't handle Microsoft C++ well enough.

You do not need to patch wxWindows anymore. You can do it, but most of the patch
stuff is already moved into the xMule itself so you will not get much benefits
from patching. So just grab the prebuilt library for your distribution, install
it and start compiling the xMule (Un-Thesis> You must patch wxWindows'
src/generic/listctrl.cpp and include/listctrl.h before you can statically link
it to xMule)

What's this in english?
It was easier getting kazaa to work with wine.

I would appreciate someone with more knowledge than me to talk me through it if you can spare a noob a few minutes
I have the version of GCC thats come with mandy 9.1

Thanks

Please check first, but I doubt that Mandrake includes the wxWindows headers and library.

If not, then before you try to compile xmule, you will need to download the wxWindows library and development files from

http://www.wxwindows.org/dl_gtk.htm#stable

These are available as rpms so that saves you the effort of compiling the source code.

Once you have installed wxWindows, you should be able to do a ./configure, make, make install from the xMule source code directory.

And please be assured that it is worthwhile installing xmule, although not complete with all bells and whistles yet, it works very well and has a good user interface.
