Just a simple text editor

I'm looking for a text editor. Just a simple one. Much like KDE's kEdit.

I don't want to install Gnome libraries, nor do I wish to install KDE libraries. I use XFCE.

Any ideas? I've been searching and can't seem to find anything good. Either it's outdated or fails to work.

if you are too prone for vi or emacs, try pico it is a prt of pine package, it is very simplistic and doesn't require mind blowing decisions to save a file.

Beaver or Nedit

nano, pico, or nedit

Hmm. Well, via console I always use VI. But I require a complementary GUI text editor as well, for various reasons.

I tried Nedit. The current version is 5.3. It fails to compile against the newest LessTif libraries due to deprecated function calls.

I just got nedit working. I'll try this out for now.

Thanks :P

If all you need is a GUI editor, then use gVim (which is the GUI version of vim). I use gVim as my editor. It accepts all the standard vi/vim commands but also has a menu-bar and tool-bar similar to most GUI based editors.

Check it out.
