huh? se IS the sdk / jdk or whatever random acronym you want to go by, and you do NOT need it just for web browsers, all you need is the JRE, Java Realtime Environment, which is a very small part of the SDK Standard Developement Kit.

Also there is NO plugin for javascript, it is *always* part of the borwser itself, and never requires a plugin.

and Java is NOT NOT NOT related to Javascript, they are completely different, javascript just stole the name.

I always thought they were different. Learn something new all the time.
Do the version number's need to match?
As in Mozilla 1.4 and Java 1.4?

no, that's just concidence. There is no connection between sun's java API and one of the browsers that can use the plugins it provides.

Andox, I've always extrcted the files in /usr/local. Not sure if that's the best place though. I also change permissions so the user can use it.

then i got it to
j2re-1_4_2-linux-i586-rpm.bin
then i loged in as su and tried..
rpm -iv j2re-1_4_2-linux-i586-rpm.bin
but nothing happens it says package is installed but nothing on my browswer works..
how do i make it so that it would install to a certain directory?

you need to read the instructions for the browser on how to install it, try searching this site too.

basically it will invovle creating a symlink for the plugin .so file to the plugins directory for your browser
