I've been using Emacs for most of my text file editing for many years... actually since I first starting working in the Unix/Linux environment back in the early 90's.
I have recently started using experimenting with other editors because of a single short coming of Emacs, which doesn't have a native Open in New Windows feature. Working in a three monitor environment makes using split windows substantially less productive.
I've been using workarounds of individually starting multiple instances. But this involves time consuming problems of which I won't go into a lot of details.
While looking at other editors, I find Jedit to include many features and plugins of which I appreciated in Emacs, plus the conveniences of the clickeable new Window functionality.
With all the features, I'm sure there may be a way to have syntax highlighting in general files such as /etc/fstab, /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/samba/smb.conf, etc.
Does anyone know of how to turn on this functionality in Jedit, or a Jedit plugin for this?
Thanks!
