Unhappy JDK Installation.

Good Morning All

I have a linux mahcnie which is being installed with RHEl 4.6.

I am working on Java development and I need to have Java Development Kit (JDK 1.6) to be installed on my Linux machine, but my mahcnie has JDK 1.4.

Can you please tell me how to install JDK1.6

And hoe to install Eclipse ?

Waiting for your email.

Thanks and Regards

To install JDK 1.6, I would first suggest checking Yum for any updates - the packages more than likely have been updated since the versions that came with RHEL 4.6.

If you cannot find a Java 1.6 Development Kit in the Yum repositories, go to and download the latest binary installer.

For Eclipse, it's the same deal - check to make sure Yum has it first, and if not, go to the project's homepage ( and download a Linux version.
