Unhappy Java Runtime 1.3 on Redhat 7.2???

Hello! I'm looking for anyone who can tell me how to upgrade the Redhat 7.2 JRE to 1.3 or higher. I've tried downloading and installing the Sun Java JRE 1.3.2 using their RPM, but "java -version" still reports back that Kaffe is my JRE, and it is running at version 1.1 in Redhat?

What am I missing here???

Thanks!

Well this is maybe a long shot - but have you chattr +i 'd those files? If so, it will act like it installed, but doesn't.. you must chattr -i them to install.

If that isn't the case.. I'd try completely uninstalling the old version then reinstalling the new.

once you have remove kaffe you need to add path to your bin dirctory of the new java to the path variable else you wouldnt be able to use it. There are couple of ways to do it. either add the path to path environment variable or edit .bash_profile in you home directory and add the path to the line which says

PATH=$PATH:$Home/bin

like

PATH=$PATH:$Home/bin:/usr/local/java/bin

where "/usr/local/java/bin" should be your path to the java bin on your computer.
