Java plugin Symlink not working?

I downloaded the java self-extracting file from java[dot]com . I made a syms link or whatever (ls -s) to ./plugin/i386/ns60-gc33/

I made it in the mozilla plugin folder. That is correct, and I thought that was all I had to do, I read some posts here on it.

[Tried to post links to the theads, but it won't allow when I have <5 posts]

Running Mandrake 9.2, Mozilla and Galeon browsers.

I downloaded the file to /usr/java where it created a new folder for it. The full path for the java link is:

I also tried linking the from i386/ns610/ (I did that first.

i did all this in the Mozilla plugins folder.
