java on fc5 install concerns

Hello all,

I am trying to install java on FC5.
Error message that I get is this:
./j2eesdk-1_4_03-linux.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I found an RPM package with this library. Downloaded the package but can't install it since there are multiple dependencies with this package.

Am I doing something wrong? What is the best way to install java on my machine?
Is there a guide?

Thank you.

Try retrieving libstdc++ and/or libc6.2-2 with your package manager, and then try installing Java again.

I'm having the same problem (but in Mandriva 2006). Anyone successfully install
j2eesdk-1_4_03 ?
I could not find : libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3 via urpmi.

I got:
urpmi libstdc++6
The package(s) are already installed

what does "with your package manager" mean?
how can I do it?
Thanks

Fedora's package manager is yum. Top on it, there is a GUI called yumex. See http://www.fedorafaq.org/#installsoftware

Looked around and found an answer...

You need to install compat-libstdc++, which is a backwards compatibility compiler

Hope this helps.

caldini please do not post junk so that you increase your post count. There is a reason why you cannot post any urls before you reach 5 posts and thats to reduce the amount of spam we get on this site. there are other ways of showing urls without breaking this sites rules. Cheers.
