I did everything you said. I had to modify the j2re-1_4_2 to j2re-1_4_2_03....so it worked. If I goto the plugins directory, I get the little locked icon on the paper named linjavaplugin_oji.so, so that whole sym link worked. But I goto a website where I need Java and there is still the message that appears "You need a Java plug-in....". What do I do?

Like somebody else said, when I click the Help > About plugins, no Java plug-ins appear on the list. But I have that sym link icon in my Mozilla Plug ins directory.... WTF?

try to put jre drectory in usr/java...delete all existing plugins (or move to other directory) and create the symlink again...had the exact same problem and doing this solved it.

My JRE directory IS in my usr/Java directory......

it goes as follows usr > usr/Java > usr/Java/J2re 1.4.2_03 Once in that directory I can see the following directories: bin, javaws, lib, man, plugin and some other text icons which are prolly not useful to this situation.

I dunno what to do. It's wierd, cause in my konquerer plugins directory....there is no symlink OR java plug-in, yet, Java works on Konquerer....WTF?

check your mozilla plugin directory...make sure there is only one link to a java plugin (the one iin usr/java/j2re)....

Well, the way I had to get the Mplayer plug-in to work was just copy the .so file from the directory and place it in my mozilla plugins directory. And it worked. I did that with ALL the Java .so ones from folders ns4, ns610, and ns610-gcc32. Of course only one at a time, and judging by the script commands given in the steps above, it was a symlink to the ns610-gcc32 directory, containing the libjavaplugin_oji.so.....all of those 3 folders contain that libjaveplugin_oji.so, but I'm guessing they're in different formats.....but I've tried each one individually by copying them over the the mozilla folder....still, it doesn't work.

It's more of an inconvenience having to load a Konqueror browser to view a Java applet page....but I'de rather have all of the "drivers" in my Mozilla one.

dont copy them...make a symbolic link like this
ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.4.2/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so /*/libjavaplugin_oji.so

that way you let the plugin work in the j2re directory...if u copy it the libjavaplugin_oji.so wont know what to do...

and the default plugins in mozilla plugin directory must all be deleted....
so in the end you only have your mplayer pluging and the symlink to the javaplugin in your directory....

if that doesnt work i suggest you uninstall and reinstall java...and do it all over again...

Intresting. I redownloaded Java just simply so I would follow all the directions on this thread. I did delete the default plug-ins:
libnullplugin.so
mozplugger.so
nppdf.so (symlink)
raclass.zip
rpnp.so

I left the flashplayer.xpt and the libflashplayer.so cause those were DL'd by me and not default plug-ins. So the ONLY THINGS in my Mozilla Plugins folder is the Mplayer plugin, the Flashplayer.xpt, libflashplayer.so and teh Java symlink. WTF is the deal with this Java? It works on Konqueror, but I can't get it to work on Mozilla!!!!!!

I have 64 bit version of linux SuSE 9.1 with 64 bit version of mozilla running on it. I did the same way as u have said in your tutorial but the Java still does not seem to work. Any suggestions for the 64-bit version will be helpful.

Ok here is how to get konqueror to see the jave. The main post needs a revision (I think)

On my system I installed to /usr/java/ as instructions say. ok

If this is all by the numbers correct the section where it say to point konqueror to /usr/java/java is incorrect. it should be

/usr/java/j2re1.4.2-05/bin/java

After doing that I was able to go to the java test page (google search first one that comes up) and it says newst jave.

Still can't play pogo games but it says jave is right.


As for firefox and mozilla. No go. Something isn't happening in my symbolic links. I'm running suse 9.1 pro. Any help would be appreciated. Thank.
