Java hates me please help

Hey I am having more java problems, I think I screwed up the installation somewhere. Whenever I run my program I use JOptionPanes to debug my code. But whenever one pops up it is a blank window. I have a screen shoot if anyone is confused about what I am describing.

I am running Ubuntu 6.10

Please elaborate more. I'm not quite sure what you are trying to do. If this is a programming question it would have been better to post in the programming forum. An example of the code would help us understand what you are trying to accomplish. If the installation is messed up have you tried coding and running helloworld?

I have no idea what JOptionPanes is, but if you want to debug your code visually I would highly recommend using the Eclipse IDE http://Eclipse.org. Its open source, has a large user base and is my own prefered java IDE.

This is not essential however and if you wish todo everything from shell, you can using just the JDK and a build tool such as ant.

They are modal dialogs to show messages for conformation or for an error occurring in this case.

Oh.. I thought u was referring to some 3rd party program / debugger. It has never occurred to me that you would use an option pane to relay debug data

Download Eclipse and you will be a happy programmer.

Eclipse is good, but learning how to use it takes time. A simpler option would be to compile and debug from the command line. Since you are having trouble getting JOptionPane to work, you might try sending debugging messages to the terminal with
System.out.println("message here");
Execute the java program from an xterm and you will get these debugging messages in the same terminal window.

Good Luck!

And a week later I find time to reply.

No this is not a programming question. I am just wondering how to fix jacked up java that is all.

I use netbeans as my IDE. But that is not my problem. Whenever I try and use a JOptionpan all that pops up is a blank window. If you need an example of what it looks like draw up a quick Jpanel that is empty and place it in a JFrame. That is what JOptionPanes look like for me.

This could be a programming problem or it could be a problem with your environment. I would suggest to compile then run a simple hello world program from shell. If this still fails then you will be able to post your very simple code, the commands that you used, the version of the sdk that you are running for further help.
