Java games run VERY slow in linux
 

Okay, so this is a little embarrassing to post, but my wife likes to play Yahoo games such as: Word Mojo and I can't get her to use Linux unless I can get them to run smoothly in Linux.

My browser is the latest version of Firebird in both Windows XP and Linux. I have the latest JDK and it is set up properly to run Java applets in Linux. Most applets run just fine, but the Java games at Yahoo run EXTREMELY slowly for some reason.

Yes, I do realize that there is a "Note: Word Mojo is not compatible with Unix or Macintosh computers." at the bottom of each of the games, but who every said that should stop it from working? If they are programmed in pure Java, it would seem that they should run fine on any platform. I have developed in Java before and encountered some significant implementations differences between JVMs, but nothing that would have the affect observed.

Does anybody know why Yahoo games run so slowly? Any suggestions or solutions? And .. um ... telling her to get a different hobby doesn't count.

I'd appreciate any help. I am trying to make my home a Windows-Free environment.
